The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has summoned chicken traders to explain various irregularities, including the lack of price lists. They must appear at the directorate on Thursday and explain themselves, directorate sources said on Tuesday (7 March).

On Monday the directorate ran a monitoring drive at Kaptan Bazar, the capital's biggest wholesale chicken market, and found various irregularities. It has summoned market representatives on 9 March to give a proper explanation.

The directorate says these irregularities have left the chicken market unstable.

Kaptan Bazar has 28 to 30 wholesale chicken depots and shops. None displayed a price list, and not one trader could show a proper cash memo for buying chickens.

Meanwhile, the market's chicken traders argued in front of the media, claiming they were not bound to obey the law and even saying they would do whatever they liked.

Earlier, during a monitoring visit on 22 February, the market president and all traders concerned had been warned to put up price lists, but they ignored it. Failure to keep proper purchase cash memos is also keeping chicken prices unstable, the directorate says.
