A 12-foot python weighing 20 kg has been rescued at Chattogram University (CU). It was rescued at around 11pm on 9 May from a colony next to the university's science faculty.

Rafiq Islam, a student of the university's zoology department and a researcher at the Venom Research Centre, said: "Residents of the colony reported seeing the snake at night. We then went with a team and rescued it. It is a non-venomous Burmese python."

He said such snakes sometimes come down from the hills into settlements in search of food, and do not harm anyone if left undisturbed. After the rescue, the snake was released on another secluded hill.
