Meat from 95 sacrificed cows has been distributed among 4,000 helpless, destitute and low-income people in Chapainawabganj.

The programme was organised from the morning of Eid day, Thursday, 28 May, to Saturday, 30 May, at the Shah Neyamatullah College ground in Chapainawabganj and in Shibganj and Nachol upazilas.

According to the organisers, a total of 65 cows were sacrificed in the Chapainawabganj Sadar area, 49 of them with financial support from a Turkish NGO. The remaining 16 were sacrificed by Nurul Islam Bulbul, member of parliament for the Chapainawabganj-3 constituency, himself.

Another 30 cows were sacrificed in Shibganj and Nachol upazilas, 15 in each. The meat was then packed and distributed among about 2,000 helpless and low-income families.

Those involved said the initiative was taken so that no family would be left out of the joy of Eid.

MP Nurul Islam Bulbul said: "The main lesson of Eid-ul-Azha is to spread the message of sacrifice and humanity. Initiatives like this for people's welfare come from that. This will continue."

Former Chapainawabganj municipality mayor Nazrul Islam, Jamaat-e-Islami's Chapainawabganj district amir Abu Zar Gifari, Turkish NGO representative Brother Lokman and local Jamaat leaders and activists of various levels were present.
