Many buyers have recently been cheated when buying "Chandpur hilsa" online, lured by tempting offers on Facebook pages. To stop this, traders at the Chandpur fish landing centre have published a list of 41 businesses. Anyone buying hilsa from outside the listed businesses risks being cheated.

Nur Hossain, assistant director of the Chandpur district office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, released the traders' list on Tuesday night (27 August). It names 41 businesses that sell hilsa.

The listed hilsa businesses and Facebook pages are: Messrs Khan Enterprise, Ilish Bhaiya Chandpur, Ilish Tonoya, Rupali Bazar, Machh Bichitra, Organic Bhaiya, Bahoria Fish, Chandpurer Ilish.com, Chand Mohona Fish, Ilishe Guri, Chandpur Ilish, Sajib Ilisher Bazar, Intime Management, Hature.com, Chandpur Ilish Bazar, Shaheen Ilish Ghar, Chandpur Fish, Messrs Alam Traders, Fresh Matsya Bhandar, Taza Fish, Rarjana Akter, Chandpur Machher Bazar, Exceptional T and Product, Pankhiraj, Nagad Bazar Online Shopping, Panch Mishali, Ilish Bari, Ilisher Bari Chandpur, Dhali Matsya Arat, Chandpur Rupali Ilish, Chandpurer Rupali Ilisher Bazar 2.0, Machher Mela, Chandpur Ilish Bazar, Chandpur Taza Ilisher Bazar, Chandpurer Ilish, Fresh Ponno, As-Sunnah Halal Uparjon, Ruhama Food, Taza Ilish and Oishi Bazar.

Nur Hossain said people should be careful when buying hilsa online. The list of names of those who sell hilsa online is kept by Abdul Bari Jamadar Manik, president of the Chandpur Fisheries Cooperative Society.

He added that some fraudulent gangs are opening pages in the name of Chandpur hilsa and cheating people in various ways, and everyone needs to stay alert.
