A farmer was killed by a wild elephant while working in a paddy field in Chakaria, Cox's Bazar. Another farmer was injured in the attack.

The incident took place around 2pm on Tuesday, 26 March, in the Chitarbil area of ward 8 in the upazila's Harbang union.

The dead farmer is Belal Uddin (55), son of Johor Mallik Fakir of the Bhandarir Deba area of Harbang union. The injured man, Kamal Hossain (45), lives in the same area.

Locals said Belal Uddin was clearing weeds in his paddy field next to the hills at midday when a wild elephant that had strayed from its herd suddenly charged, seized him with its trunk and trampled him underfoot. He died on the spot.

The elephant also injured another farmer, Kamal Hossain, in the same way. Locals rescued him and admitted him to the Chakaria Upazila Health Complex.

Meheraj Uddin, chairman of Harbang union parishad, confirmed the death in the wild elephant attack.
