The Environmental Photographic Society (EPS) held a workshop called "Capturing Wings" in Dhaka to combine bird photography skills with a conservation message, Banglavision reports. Thirty-five photographers and enthusiasts took part on Saturday, 3 October, from 4pm to 8pm in room 803 of the Bishwo Shahitto Kendro.

Photographer Monirul Islam was the resource person. The society's president Kawsar Habib Somel opened the workshop, moderated by general secretary Mesbah Uddin Ahmed Sumon.

Sessions covered the basics and techniques of bird photography, observing bird behaviour, preparing for a shoot, using light and surroundings, and photographing birds in the field. Bird habitats, biodiversity and the link between photography and conservation were also discussed.

The workshop stressed responsible practice, so that taking pictures does not disturb birds' natural behaviour and lives, and the use of photography to bring stories of nature's beauty and biodiversity to the public.

At the closing session, certificates were handed out by Abu Naser Khan, chairman of the environmental movement Poribesh Bachao Andolon (POBA), and Ashfaq Ahmed, former president of the Bangladesh Photographic Society. The organisers said the aim was to spark interest in nature through birdwatching and to spread conservation awareness through photography.
