The Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) has advised farmers on what to do after a cyclone or storm rain.

The research institute says strong winds can flatten aman paddy plants. Farmers can straighten four or five plants together and tie them with straw, a practice known as the lodging-up method.

Any excess standing water must be drained from the field, and no extra urea fertiliser should be applied.

Storm rain caused by a cyclone can lead to blast disease in aman fields. If signs of blast appear, farmers can spray in the afternoon any one of the tricyclazole-group fungicides such as Trooper, Difa, Zill, Eumoc, Samar, Terazole, L Cyclozole, Cyanozole, Stenza or Samar 75 WP, mixed at 0.8 grams per litre of water.
