Ujjal Mia of Suhilpur in Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila spends the whole year going round livestock markets across the country, buying good breeds of buffalo from different markets and rearing them. This year two of his prized buffaloes have caught buyers' attention. Together the pair weighs 55 maunds, and he is asking Tk 27 lakh for them.

Ujjal Mia, son of Babul Mia, lives in a house on the east side of the road at Suhilpur Bazar and is a buffalo trader by profession. He keeps the buffaloes at home, where he now has 75 of them, looked after by 10 people.

The two prized animals are very striking to look at and weigh about 55 maunds, and people are coming from different places to see them.

His uncle Kabir Mia told Jago News: "We have been in the buffalo business all year round, but I have never seen buffaloes this big. The two are kept under a shed. Because they are aggressive, it is hard to bring them out. Curious people come every day from different places to see them."

"I now have 75 buffaloes, and two of them are very special to me," Ujjal Mia told Jago News. "Since I brought them, they have been reared with great care for five months."

"Buffaloes cannot tolerate heat, so I have had to install two fans for them. They are bathed three times a day. They are fed nothing but straw, rice bran, husk, and gram and chickpeas," he said.

Weighed on a scale, the two buffaloes came to 2,200 kg, or 55 maunds. The asking price is Tk 27 lakh: Tk 15 lakh for the larger and Tk 12 lakh for the smaller.

"I want to sell them from home. If I can't, I will have to take them to market. Many buyers have come to the house and bargained, but we have not agreed on a price, so I have not sold yet," Ujjal Mia said.
