Only two days remain before Eid-ul-Azha, and the sacrificial animal markets in Brahmanbaria have begun to pick up, with some buying and selling. Many people, however, are not yet buying animals because they lack space. Meanwhile, seasonal fodder traders have set up stalls on the pavements to meet demand for feed for animals already bought.

On Thursday (7 July), seasonal traders were seen selling fodder at the main road and at most neighbourhood junctions in Brahmanbaria municipal town. They have set up at almost every neighbourhood junction, including the Thana Bridge area, Ghorapotti junction, Kandipara junction, Jail Road, Sabera Sobhan School junction and Government College junction. The fodder includes straw, green grass, bran and oil cake.

Habibur Rahman, who sells fodder in the Thana Bridge area, told Jagonews: "My home is in Monipur village in Bijoynagar. I live by farming. Every year I sit here with fodder three or four days before the sacrifice Eid. This year I'm only selling straw. In the past two days I've sold Tk 5,000 worth."

Rakib Mia, who has a stall at Ghorapotti junction, said: "My main job is masonry. I've set up the stall from today hoping for extra income ahead of Eid. I'm selling straw and green grass by the bundle: Tk 30 a bundle of straw and Tk 40 for green grass."

Maksudur Rahman, who came to buy green grass, said: "Having these fodder shops open in town at Eid is convenient for us. Otherwise it would be quite hard to get feed for the sacrificial animal."
