The cabinet committee on government purchase has approved a proposal to buy 1 crore 60 lakh hessian jute sacks for storing and bagging food grain during the ongoing domestic Boro procurement 2026 season. The sacks will cost Tk 111 crore 6 lakh 400.
The proposal was approved at a meeting of the committee at the Secretariat on 22 July, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.
Tender process
Sources at the meeting said the Directorate of Food had moved to buy hessian jute sacks with a capacity of 30 kg each through an open tender. The tender drew a total of 1,153 bids from 38 firms. After scrutiny, 1,109 bids from 34 firms were found to be responsive.
On the recommendation of the tender evaluation committee (TEC), it was decided to buy the 1.6 crore sacks from 21 lowest-bidding firms. The purchase from these firms has been approved after completion of the required process.
According to the Directorate of Food, the average price of each sack will be Tk 69.41. The sacks will be bought with government funds and used to bag grain in the ongoing Boro procurement programme.
