A Tk 90 crore incentive will be given to expand the cultivation and production of hybrid paddy in this year's Boro season. The government order was issued today (Thursday), and distribution in the field will begin soon.

Under the incentive, 14 lakh 40 thousand small and marginal farmers will receive, free of charge, the 2 kg of hybrid seed needed to cultivate one bigha of land.

By the agriculture ministry's calculation, this will increase hybrid paddy cultivation in Boro by 1 lakh 92 thousand hectares and, at a yield of 4.95 tonnes a hectare, produce 9 lakh 50 thousand tonnes of additional rice.

In the 2022-23 fiscal year, 15 lakh farmers were given hybrid seed free of charge. This increased hybrid paddy cultivation by 2 lakh hectares and raised rice production by 9 lakh 83 thousand tonnes.
