Villagers in Boalmari, Faridpur, have released an endangered porcupine after capturing it. The porcupine was released on Saturday (18 September) in a crop field in Beradi Adarsha village of Satoir union in the upazila.

Locals said a young man named Ilanur Molla (37) caught the porcupine on the road in front of his house at around 10pm last Wednesday. He then took it home and kept it in a cage. For several days, local people crowded at his house to see it.

Ilanur Molla said: "When I told the local chairman, Mojibar Rahman, about it, he told me to release the porcupine. So I let it go in the paddy field next to my house."

Boalmari upazila nirbahi officer Md Rezaul Karim said he did not know about the matter. He said he would speak to the local chairman about it soon.
