Eight farmers and organisations were honoured in Aminpur, Pabna, for their work in safe food production and environment-friendly farming. BK Foundation held the ceremony at noon on Saturday, 31 October, at the grounds of the Dayalnagar Baharunnesa Public Library.
The organisers said about 150 people and organisations from across the country applied. Eight were chosen after screening in three categories.
Two were named natural farmers of the year and received Tk 1 lakh each. Two first runners-up received Tk 75,000 each and four second runners-up Tk 50,000 each. Every winner was also given a crest.
The organisers said the awards aim to spread natural farming, encourage safe food production and promote environment-friendly agriculture, and hoped the recognition would draw more farmers to it.
Interest is growing among farmers in methods that cut back chemical fertiliser and pesticide. The cash prizes are a private effort to bring that practice into view.
