News of people dying of snakebite is common, but a snake dying from a human bite is certainly rare. Such a strange incident has recently happened in the Indian state of Bihar, where a young man bit a snake to death.

According to the Indian newspaper The Indian Express, the man is named Santosh Lohar. The 35-year-old works for the railways.

He was getting ready for bed on Tuesday night after a long day's work when a snake suddenly bit him. Santosh immediately grabbed the snake and bit it back.

There is a superstition in the area that biting a snake back sends the venom back into its body. Acting on that belief, Santosh bit the snake twice, so hard that it died on the spot.

The young man was lucky, though: the snake died, but he survived.

After the bite, his colleagues rushed Santosh to hospital. He has since recovered and gone home. What kind of snake bit him is not known.
