The ban on hilsa fishing in Bhola is in its fourth day. On Wednesday, 16 October, mobile courts jailed or fined nine fishermen caught with large quantities of net while catching mother hilsa in defiance of the ban.

Bhola district fisheries officer Biswajit Kumar Deb said one fisherman was detained with 1,000 metres of net around dawn while catching hilsa in the Tetulia river in Bheduria union of Bhola Sadar upazila. Executive magistrate Md Rahmatullah then sentenced him through a mobile court to 15 days' simple imprisonment. The seized net was burned.

In addition, eight fishermen were detained while catching mother hilsa in the Tetulia river in Badanpur and Farajganj unions of Lalmohan upazila, and 11,000 metres of net and two trawlers were seized from them. Upazila assistant commissioner (land) Ehsanul Haque Shipon fined them Tk 23,000 through a mobile court.
