The Coast Guard has seized a large quantity of hilsa and other sea fish from three trucks in Bhola. Lt Abul Kashem, media officer of the Coast Guard's South Zone, confirmed the information on the night of 13 May.

He said all fishing is banned for 58 days, from 15 April to 11 June, to support the breeding and growth of sea fish. Acting on a tip-off, the Coast Guard carried out a special drive near Panpatti Bazar in Bhola after midnight on 12 May.

Searching three suspicious trucks, the Coast Guard seized about 10,140 kg of sea fish with an estimated market value of about Tk 1 crore 1 lakh 40 thousand, the officer said.

He said the seized fish were later distributed among local orphanages, madrasas and poor and destitute people in the presence of the fisheries department.
