Forest guards have recovered two dead adult deer from Haringhata reserved forest in Patharghata, Barguna.

The two animals were recovered from the Jintala area of the forest on Monday (20 March).

Local people believe the deer died after drinking poisoned water. The forest department, however, says the cause of death will be known after a forensic test.

According to the Patharghata forest office, local people saw the two deer lying dead on the bank of a canal inside Haringhata reserved forest and informed the forest department. Forest staff recovered the deer and brought them to the Patharghata forest office on Monday evening. Samples were kept to find out the cause of death and the carcasses were buried.

A local man who did not want to be named said some unscrupulous people catch fish by putting poison in the canals that flow through the forest. He believes the two deer died after drinking poisoned water from one of those canals.

Patharghata forest officer Muhidur Rahman said samples had been kept from the two dead deer and the cause of death would be known through a forensic test.
