A young man, Md Rezaul Islam (25), has been arrested with 35kg of deer meat in a joint drive by the coast guard and police in Patharghata, Barguna.

He was detained on the night of 15 April in the Saptagram area of Kathaltali union in the upazila. Coast guard media officer Lieutenant H M M Harun Or Rashid confirmed the matter in a press release on the morning of 16 April.

According to the coast guard, the BCG station under Coast Guard South Zone and Patharghata police carried out drives in different parts of Patharghata. During the operation, Md Rezaul Islam was caught with 35kg of deer meat in the area called Saptagram next to Ward 3 of Kathaltali union. The recovered meat and the detained smuggler were later handed over to the Patharghata forest department.

Media officer Harun Or Rashid said one smuggler had been caught with deer meat in the joint coast guard and police drive. The coast guard is patrolling 24 hours a day to keep law and order normal, and the drives will continue, he said.
