A woman named Esther Bawm, 32, has been injured in a wild bear attack in the Chimbuk area of Bandarban. The incident happened at 11:30am on Sunday (27 April) in the Chimbuk Bagan Para area of Tonkaboti union in Bandarban Sadar.

The injured Esther Bawm is the wife of Pranjual Bawm of Lairunpi Para in Ward 4 of Tonkaboti union.

Family members said Esther Bawm and her husband, Tonmoy Bawm, had gone from Lairunpi Para to Empu Para in the morning to see her sick younger sister. On the way back, when they reached the 11 Mile Bagan Para area on the Chimbuk-Bandarban main road, a bear suddenly attacked them.

Esther Bawm suffered serious wounds to her waist, stomach and other parts of her body. When people nearby rushed over at the couple's screams and raised an uproar, the bear fled into the jungle. Locals rescued her and admitted her to a clinic in Bandarban town.

Tonkaboti Union Parishad chairman Mangyang Mro Prodip said Esther Bawm is now out of danger and receiving treatment.
