Sharecroppers in the haor have been hit hardest, said Lutfozzaman Babar, MP for Netrokona-4 and former home minister.

He said this on the afternoon of 9 May while visiting Fatunia haor in Kaitail union of Madan upazila.

Babar said the administration had been given the job of listing affected farmers, but its list is not acceptable because it contains exaggeration. The list will be checked again so that the real farmers receive incentives, and incentives will be arranged for genuinely affected farmers before Eid, he said.

He said work in his area is being done with long-term planning, and a five-year plan has been taken up for it.

On a two-day tour, he visited haor areas in Madan, Mohanganj and Khaliajuri upazilas of the Netrokona-4 constituency, talking to farmers and seeing their hardship first-hand.

Those present included Madan upazila BNP president Nurul Alam Talukder, general secretary Rafiqul Islam Akanda, and organising secretary and Kaitail union parishad chairman Abu Taher.
