A Krishak League leader stood by a sharecropper in Alfadanga, Faridpur, by harvesting the ripe paddy on about 30 decimals of his land. The initiative was taken by Advocate Sheikh Jamal Hossain Munna, assistant health and family welfare affairs secretary of the organisation's central executive committee.

On the afternoon of 9 May, Jamal Hossain Munna, together with local Krishak League leaders and activists, cut the paddy of sharecropper Chhiru Molla.

Chhiru Molla said: "During the harvest season I was worried about getting the ripe paddy home because of the shortage of labourers and their high wages. The central Krishak League leader and local activists have cut the paddy on my 30 decimals of land. I am very happy with what they have done. I pray for the Prime Minister and the Krishak League activists."

Sheikh Jamal Hossain Munna told Jago News that, on the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, he had harvested a sharecropper's paddy as part of a programme of the Bangladesh Krishak League central committee. The Krishak League has stood by people in every disaster and hard time in the country, he said, and would stay beside ordinary people in future too.

Those who took part in the harvest included Faridpur district Krishak League vice-president and freedom fighter Dr Golam Kabir, joint general secretary Khan Mizanur Rahman, municipal Krishak League leader Siddiqur Rahman Sheikh and Alfadanga Motorcycle Owners' Welfare Association president Sabuj Sheikh.
