Locals have rescued a python from a paddy field in Aditmari upazila, Lalmonirhat. The snake is 8 feet long and weighs about six and a half kilograms.

Khairul Islam, an employee of the Hatibandha forest department, confirmed that the python was released in the Hatibandha Sal forest at noon on Friday 13 October.

The snake had been rescued on the afternoon of Thursday 12 October from Gandhamaru Khamartari village, on the Indian border, in Durgapur union of the upazila.

Locals said a farmer spotted the python in a paddy field. It was rescued with the help of local people and the forest department was informed. It is thought that the snake crossed the border into the Bangladeshi paddy field.

Fuad Al Masud, who rescued the python, said it had been rescued safely and handed over to the Lalmonirhat forest department.

Anisur Rahman, an official of the Lalmonirhat district forest department, said the python had been released in the district's Hatibandha Sal forest.
