Test soil and grain, skip phosphate you do not need, Illinois agronomists advise

With fertiliser prices high and margins thin, a Burrus Seed agronomist and a University of Illinois soil scientist say soil tests within 10 to 20 per cent of the recommendation, grain testing for real removal rates and variable-rate spreading can cut phosphorus spending without giving up yield.
