HealthGiardia found in pet cats, some strains able to infect people: study in PLOS One
Giardia duodenalis turned up in 6.3 percent of more than 157,000 faecal samples from pet cats in the US and Canada, and 18.5 percent of the positive samples carried strains that can infect humans.
