A wild elephant has died in the hills of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar. The elephant was estimated to be 8-10 years old.

It was found dead in a hill stream in the Hnila beat of Teknaf on the morning of 18 January, said Teknaf Assistant Conservator of Forests Md Monirul Islam.

He said the young wild elephant, aged 8-10 years, was recovered dead from the hill stream on Saturday morning. After an inquest it was buried in the hills. It is initially thought that the elephant may have died after falling from a hill.

He added that the cause of death will be known once the post-mortem report is received.
