Syngenta has launched Cropwise Explorer, a digital tool meant to help farm-input retailers and their grower customers spot agronomic problems in fields early and decide faster what to do about them, CropLife reports.
Part of the company's Cropwise farm management platform, the tool brings together historical performance data, in-season crop information and satellite imagery in one place. Retailers can watch many growers' fields from anywhere, pick up problems through anomaly detection and send recommendations to the grower.
Its features include weekly field-insight reports, yield and productivity summaries, and pointers to what is doing well and what needs attention. An AI summary and weekly reports based on NDVI, a satellite measure of how green and vigorous a crop is, are designed to help retailers decide which fields to scout first, and explain why.
"Retailers need tools that save time and help with decision-making," said Greg Uchtmann, digital ag solutions marketing lead at Syngenta. Users can log scouting notes, capture and download images and share insights with growers, he said, and a Time Series Analysis feature compares the current season's crop development with earlier seasons in a single chart.
Alerts and reports can be linked with other Cropwise tools so that growers are kept informed as field conditions change.
Tools of this kind move part of the crop adviser's work from walking every field to checking the ones that satellite data says are behaving differently. Their value to a farmer depends on how quickly the adviser acts on the alert.
