A fisherman named Monirul Gazi, 24, has died of a snakebite while drying fish at Dublar Char in the Sundarbans.

The incident happened on the afternoon of Sunday 13 November. Monirul was the son of the late Monowar Gazi of Madarbaria village in Pratapnagar union, Ashashuni upazila, Satkhira.

Abu Daud Dhali, chairman of Pratapnagar union parishad, confirmed the news to Jago News.

"Other fishermen at Dublar Char told us by mobile phone that Monirul Gazi died of a snakebite. They have set off home from Dublar Char with his body. I heard the snake bit him while he was spreading fish in the dried-fish village. His body will reach home on Monday night," he said.

Mominul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ashashuni police station, told Jago News he had heard about the incident from the local chairman. Police will be sent to the scene once the body arrives, he said.
