Two pythons have been rescued from two separate places in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar, over two days.

At around 3:30pm on Sunday (21 June), a snake became caught in a fishing net while fish were being caught in the pond of Awal Mia's house, next to Baruna Hajipur Government Primary School in the upazila. Family members panicked on seeing the snake and informed the Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation.

Swapan Deb Sajal, director of the Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation, and environmental activist Rajdeep Deb Dip went to the spot and found a python. The household said pigeons, ducks and other domestic animals had been mysteriously disappearing from their home for several days. They had assumed a jungle cat or a jackal was taking them, but after the python was rescued they realised the snake had been eating them.

Locals said that at around 2pm on Saturday, people who had gone to catch fish in a crop field in front of Tapu Debnath's house in the Kakiabazar area of the upazila saw a python. The Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation was informed and identified the snake as a python. It was rescued unharmed and handed over to the Sreemangal forest range office.

Md Nazmul Islam, the Sreemangal forest range officer, confirmed the matter and said the snakes had been released into the forest.
