A palm civet (gondhogokul) has been rescued from a house in Sreemangal town, Moulvibazar.

The animal was rescued at around 8:30pm on Monday (26 January) from the house of Krishna Sen, a US-based expatriate, on JT Road in Sreemangal town.

The injured civet was found at the house and the Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation was quickly informed. On receiving the news, the foundation's director, Sajal Deb, went to the spot, rescued the injured animal and took it safely into the foundation's care. It was later handed over to the forest department for protection.

Sajal Deb said the civet had probably been injured in a road accident before making its way into the house, and that swift action had saved its life.

Md Kazi Nazmul Haque, range officer of the Sreemangal wildlife management and nature conservation division, confirmed the rescue.
