A venomous cobra has been rescued from the kitchen of a house in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar.

The Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation and the Forest Department rescued the snake from the kitchen of Tarek Ahmed's house in Janaura village in the upazila on the afternoon of Tuesday (12 May).

According to local accounts, women of the household were cleaning the kitchen on Tuesday afternoon when they suddenly heard a hissing sound. They then saw a snake sitting with its hood raised in a rat hole in the kitchen and screamed in fear. Hearing the screams, Tarek Ahmed came and tried to kill the snake, but seeing its aggressive behaviour he did not dare go near it.

The Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation was then informed, and its director Swapan Deb Sajal and environmental activist Rajdip Deb Dip quickly reached the spot, rescued the snake unharmed and handed it over to the Forest Department.

Sreemangal forest range officer Md Nazmul Islam confirmed the rescue and said the cobra is venomous. It will be released into the forest.
