A banded wolf snake has been rescued from a shop on Sagardighi Road in Sreemangal town, Moulvibazar.

The snake was rescued around midday on Thursday, 30 July, from the shop of Piyush Paul, owner of Dipali Enterprise on Sagardighi Road.

Piyush Paul said he saw the snake in the shop and informed the Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation. On receiving the news, the foundation's director Swapan Deb Sajal and environmental activist Rajdeep Deb Deep came and rescued the snake, which was then handed over to the range office of the Sreemangal forest department.

The foundation said the banded wolf snake is not venomous and is generally harmless to people. It plays an important role in keeping the environment in balance by eating rats and small reptiles. It urged people not to panic if they see such snakes, but to inform a rescue organisation or the forest department.

Sreemangal forest range officer Md Nazmul Islam confirmed the rescue and said the snake would be released into the forest.
