The forest department has rescued a spotted deer that was washed in by the tidal waters of the Meghna river at Monpura in Bhola. The deer was rescued from the embankment at Batir Khal in South Sakuchia union of the upazila on the morning of Tuesday, 24 March, and released into the upazila's protected forest that afternoon.

Local people said they spotted the deer in the Meghna below the embankment in the morning. They pulled it out of the river and informed the forest department, whose staff then took the animal from them.

Md Rashedul Hasan, the forest department's range officer in Monpura, said the deer was healthy. It is thought to have come in search of food and been swept along by the Meghna tide. The deer may be about two years old, he said. "We released it into the forest at Char Patania in Monpura upazila around midday today."
