As in other years, special trains will be arranged this year to carry sacrificial animals, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter has said.

She said special trains would be run to supply sacrificial animals, from North Bengal via Dhaka to Chattogram. Moving animals by train and by waterway must also comply with the Animal Welfare Act 2019.

The adviser spoke at a press conference at the Secretariat on Sunday (4 May), called to set out the steps being taken to assess demand for sacrificial animals, supply, and ensure their free movement and transport across the country, including remote areas, ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Farida Akhter said the necessary steps would be taken, with the joint cooperation of the Local Government Division and the city corporations, to keep cattle markets clean and remove waste. Instructions will also be issued on sacrificing animals hygienically rather than just anywhere.

The adviser also said the Animal Welfare Act must be followed to protect animal health and ensure safe meat.
