A young man named Md Shakil, 26, has died after being bitten by a venomous snake in Sonargaon, Narayanganj.

The incident took place on the night of Thursday, 26 June, in Nilkanda Rupnagar village of Sonmandi union in the upazila. Shakil, the son of Musa Mia of the village, drove a battery-powered auto-rickshaw.

At around 8.30pm on Thursday, as he was returning home after work, a venomous snake came out of a bush beside his house and bit him on the leg. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

According to his family, when they realised he had been bitten they tied a rope around his leg. Later, on the advice of a local kabiraj (traditional healer), the binding was removed, after which the venom spread quickly through his body and he began to feel a burning sensation. With the help of local young men, family members then rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
