A mobile court has fined a fish trader Tk 5,000 in Sitakunda for selling jatka, young hilsa. The court was conducted in the municipal town on the evening of Sunday 4 January by the upazila assistant commissioner (land), Md Abdullah Al Mamun.

Upazila fisheries officer Md Motasim Billah and members of Sitakunda police station were present during the drive. The seized jatka was later distributed to a local orphanage.

According to court sources, after word came that a trader was secretly selling jatka at the fish market in the municipal town that evening, a person was sent in disguise to check. When the sale was confirmed, the mobile court was held on the spot and the jatka was seized, and the trader was fined Tk 5,000.

Sitakunda upazila assistant commissioner (land) Abdullah Al Mamun said catching, storing and selling jatka is a punishable offence. One trader was fined Tk 5,000 for selling jatka and 6 kg of fish was seized, he said.
