Students must work sincerely through tree planting and practice to secure a liveable world, and schools can be the first step, said Lion Amjad Hossain Chowdhury, chairman of the managing committee of Sitakunda Girls' High School. Students must be aware of protecting the environment, he said.

He made the remarks at a tree-planting and blood-grouping event organised by the Leo Club of Chittagong Bandhan at the school on Sunday morning (9 August), where he spoke as chief guest in his capacity as a director of Bandhan Lions Club.

He said health awareness, personal hygiene and knowing one's blood group are also vital for students. Today's children are tomorrow's future, and the Leo Club's work to raise environmental thinking and health awareness among students is truly commendable.

Students can help green the world by planting trees at home and around their houses, he said. Knowing one's blood group has proved helpful in any emergency and is essential for both giving and receiving blood. He urged Bandhan Leo Club leaders to take up the programme on a larger scale in future.

The event was chaired by Leo Club of Chittagong Bandhan president Leo Azmain Adil Chowdhury. Those present included the school's head teacher Md Didarul Alam, guardian member Md Iliyas Hossain, teachers' representative Parvin Akter, former councillor Shamsul Alam Azad, Zafarnagar Aparnacharan High School chairman Md Nasir Uddin, Sitakunda Traders' Association member Md Abir, Bandhan Lions Club president Abu Taher, former president Mamunur Rashid Mamun, Leo Club adviser Md Parvez, member engineer Md Shahadat Hossain, and Bandhan Leo Club members including Nur Mohammad, Mohammad Sajib Hossain, Fahim Chowdhury, Aria Chowdhury, Ahraf Chowdhury, Mehraj Hossain, Mahmudul Haque Karib, Azizur Rahman, Mohammad Ayon, Mohammad Rahul, Azmain Kabir Chowdhury, Rabiul Hasan, Md Sakib and Shuvo Nath.
