A mobile court has fined four fishers Tk 10,000 for catching mother hilsa on the Jamuna river in Sirajganj in defiance of the ban. The illegal current nets and hilsa they had with them were also seized.

The drive was carried out on the Jamuna in Sirajganj Sadar upazila on the afternoon of Saturday, 19 October. Executive magistrate Zakir Hossain conducted the mobile court.

Sirajganj Sadar senior upazila fisheries officer Anwar Hossain confirmed the information to Jago News. He said each of the four fishers was fined Tk 2,500 by the mobile court. The seized hilsa were distributed to a local madrasa and the nets were burnt.
