The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) held a special coordination meeting of its district vigilance team in Sirajganj to make sure farmers get pesticides of proper quality and that the Pesticide Act 2018 is followed. Representatives of more than 60 pesticide makers and marketers attended.

Chief guest AKM Monjure Maola, deputy director of DAE Sirajganj, said the district vigilance team would take a zero-tolerance line so that farmers are not harmed by substandard products. The meeting decided on tough legal action against lawbreakers and sellers of adulterated pesticides, with regular field monitoring and drives.

The meeting discussed enforcing the pesticide law, simplifying and supervising licensing, and the safe use of new pesticides reaching the market. Traders were told to take out and renew licences on time as the rules require.

Distributors and company representatives were urged to introduce newly registered pesticides properly, explain correct application and get accurate information to farmers. Speakers said no unapproved, counterfeit or adulterated pesticide would be allowed on the market.

The district seed certification officer, senior horticulture officer, additional deputy director, upazila agriculture officers, additional agriculture officers, agricultural extension officers and sub-assistant plant protection officers also attended.
