A cow has died of electrocution in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj. A buyer named Mohammad Azim had bought it for Tk 1 lakh at a market called Ayub Nagar in Siddhirganj.
The animal, bought for sacrifice, was electrocuted and died on Wednesday evening (6 July) when it touched an electricity pole at the Adamjee Komol bus stand.
The buyer said he would file a complaint with the police holding Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC), Narayanganj, responsible.
'I didn't know the pole was live'
Mohammad Azim, who lives on Notun Bazar road in Siddhirganj, said he bought the cow for Tk 1 lakh at the Ayub Nagar market just before dusk and paid a toll of Tk 5,000. The incident happened while he was taking the cow home.
"I didn't know the pole was live. The moment the cow touched the pole, it died. Apparently the pole has had an electrical problem for a long time. I have suffered a big loss. I will file a complaint with the police so that no one else is harmed by DPDC's negligence," he said.
Kabir Hossain, lessee of the Siddhirganj Ayub Nagar market, said: "The cow was sold at my market for one lakh taka. I heard that it was electrocuted and died on the way home. I am deeply saddened by the incident."
