Members of WildTeam and the Village Tiger Response Team (VTRT) have rescued a python from under a haystack in Sharankhola, Bagerhat.
The python was rescued on the afternoon of 24 July from the house of Firoz Mistri in Sharankhola village, Southkhali union, Sharankhola upazila, and was later released into the Sundarbans. The snake was 12 feet long and weighed about 15 kg.
Alam Hawlader, WildTeam's Sharankhola field facilitator, said the python had come into the village from the Sundarbans, entered a house's chicken coop and eaten several chickens. It then tried to hide in a haystack. On being informed, they rescued it and handed it over to the Sundarbans forest department.
Md Khalilur Rahman, station officer (SO) of the Sundarbans' Sharankhola station, said the volunteers had rescued the python and handed it to them. They then released it into the forest in the Dhabri area south of the Sharankhola range office.
