A college student named Opu Biswas, 19, has died of snakebite in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah.

A snake bit him while he was asleep in bed on the night of Friday, 11 July, and he died around dawn on Saturday.

The incident happened in Brahmapur village of Shailkupa. Opu Biswas was the son of Sekendar Joarddar of Brahmapur village in Sarutia union. Shailkupa Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Masum Khan confirmed the information.

Police said Opu Biswas had sat this year's HSC examination from Shailkupa City College. On Friday night a snake bit him on the hand while he slept. He then told his father his hand was burning and painful, and his family took him to a snake charmer for incantations.

When his condition worsened, Opu was admitted to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex, where he died while under treatment at dawn on Saturday.
