A python has been rescued from a hardware shop at Nildumur Bazar, next to the Sundarbans, in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira.

Forest Department staff and CPG members rescued the snake with the help of local people at around 9:30am on Monday, 29 June.

Harun, a hardware trader at Nildumur Bazar, said he saw a huge python inside when he opened his shop in the morning. As the news spread, curious crowds gathered in front of the shop. The Forest Department was informed, and forest staff and CPG members rescued the snake with local people's help.

Local people said such a large python had never been seen in a crowded place like the market. How the snake got into the shop is not yet known, but it is thought to have come into the settlement from the nearby forest or bushes in search of food.

Irfan Uddin, an official at the Forest Department's Burigoalini station, said the rescued python was healthy and would be released safely into a suitable habitat in the Sundarbans after the necessary observation. He urged the public not to panic or harm wildlife they see, but to inform the Forest Department quickly.
