Sabdi, a village close to Narayanganj city, is known above all for flower farming. As winter begins, more and more of its fields go under flowers, and sunflowers, marigolds, roses and other blooms change the look of the village.
Narrow village paths run beside the flower fields, with a river nearby. Many people come out from the city to watch farmers at work and village life going on around them. The fields look their best in soft early-morning light or the last sun of the afternoon, and on winter mornings they may be wrapped in fog.
Bangla Tribune advises visitors to ask the farmer's permission before entering a flower garden, and to walk around without harming the flowers or plants.
From Dhaka, Narayanganj can be reached by bus, private car or other transport, and Sabdi by local transport from there, so the village makes a day trip. Because the display depends on the growing season, it is worth checking before setting out, and visitors are advised to carry water and an umbrella.
