Buildings with rooftop gardens will get a 10 per cent rebate on holding tax, Local Government Minister Md Tajul Islam has said. The government took the decision to bring down temperatures, he said.
He told journalists this at a meeting in the conference room of the Local Government Division at the Secretariat on Wednesday (14 June).
The decision will apply to buildings under all city corporations and municipalities in the country, the minister said.

He said rooftop gardens must also be properly looked after so that mosquitoes do not breed there. In that case a 10 per cent holding tax rebate will be given, and a circular to this effect will be issued soon.
The minister said that wherever the incentive is given, it will be stated that the 10 per cent rebate is conditional on mosquitoes not breeding in the garden. There are also some architectural considerations that must be kept in mind when making a rooftop garden.
Tajul Islam said the mayors of each area will settle the details. A circular on the matter will be issued today, and it will take effect from then.
