Large fish have long been sold in pieces in Rajshahi, so anyone can buy even a small amount. With hilsa prices high recently, many people have been unable to enjoy the fish. With this in mind, the Rajshahi Traders' Coordination Council has decided to sell hilsa cut into pieces.

The sale of cut hilsa will be formally inaugurated at 11am on Thursday (10 October) at the Shaheb Bazar fish market in the city.

Sekendar Ali, general secretary of the Rajshahi Traders' Coordination Council, confirmed the decision.

"We see that hilsa prices are very high this time. There are poor people who don't get to eat even one piece of hilsa a year. The decision was taken with them in mind, and the traders have agreed," he said.

Sekendar Ali added that buyers will be charged for the share they take, based on the per-kg price of the fish. The decision is being publicised on Facebook, and he hoped for a good response.
