A python has been rescued from a vegetable field in Sharankhola, Bagerhat. The snake was eight feet long and weighed about 10 kg.

It was rescued on Monday afternoon (27 February) from the vegetable field at the home of farmer Moslem Khan in North Sontala village of Southkhali union in Sharankhola upazila, next to the Sundarbans, and later released into the forest.

Alam Howlader, team leader of the Village Tiger Response Team (VTRT) in Sharankhola upazila, confirmed the rescue. He said Moslem Khan saw the python while tending his vegetable field and phoned them, and they went and rescued it before handing it over to the Forest Department.

Shamsul Arefin, assistant conservator of forests (ACF) of the Sharankhola range of the Sundarbans East Forest Division, said members of WildTeam, the CPG and the VTRT rescued the python and brought it to the range office. It was then released into the forest near the range office.
