A python has died after becoming trapped in an abandoned fishing net at Rauwa beel in Hail Haor, Sreemangal, Moulvibazar. The snake was rescued in a critical state and taken to hospital, but a vet declared it dead.

Around noon on Thursday, 6 August, local resident Raja Mia went fishing at Rauwa beel and saw the python caught in an abandoned net. The snake was already in critical condition.

The Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation was informed, and its director Swapan Deb Sajal and environmental activist Rajdeep Deb Deep went to the spot and rescued the snake.

It was taken for treatment to the Sreemangal Upazila Livestock Office and Veterinary Hospital, where veterinary surgeon Dr Anwarul Islam examined it and declared it dead.

The dead python was then handed over to the Sreemangal forest range office for the necessary action. Sreemangal forest range officer Md Nazmul Islam confirmed the matter and said the python would be buried after the required legal process.
