Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is visiting Barishal for the first time and has already left his home in Gulshan in the capital for the city.

He set off from his Gulshan residence shortly after 6am on Monday, 13 July, the BNP media cell confirmed.

During the visit the prime minister will take part in tree-planting programmes in Gaurnadi and the Barishal City Corporation area, a family card distribution programme and an organisational meeting at the Barishal Shilpakala Academy.

On Sunday, the prime minister's additional press secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said the prime minister would travel to Barishal by road. Several tree-planting programmes are scheduled there, and he will return to Dhaka in the evening once they are over.

The prime minister's schedule includes tree planting along the newly excavated Sarikal-Batajor in Batajor union of Gaurnadi, tree planting at the Trish Godown killing field in the district town, and tree planting beside the Sagarnadi next to Trish Godown.

In the afternoon, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will also attend a views-exchange meeting with leaders of the BNP and its associate bodies at the district Shilpakala Academy.
