Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sh M Rezaul Karim has said we must plant more trees to maintain the natural balance. Tree felling is upsetting the natural balance day by day, he said, and we are fighting constantly to preserve nature. The climate is changing day by day, and one of the main causes of this climate change is tree felling.

He was speaking at the opening of a seven-day tree fair at the Central Shaheed Minar premises in Pirojpur on Sunday afternoon (11 September).

The minister also said trees provide us with nutritious food and supply oxygen, and we meet fuel needs from them. Wood is used to make paper and furniture that meet our daily needs. Trees not only save lives but benefit us in many ways, which is why Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina plants a tree herself every year to open the tree fair. All of us must come forward to protect the environmental balance by planting more trees in our own yards, on our own land and at our homes.

The event was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahedur Rahman, and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Saidur Rahman, divisional forest officer SM Sajjad Hossain and leaders of various local associate bodies were present.
