Four fishermen have been jailed for catching hilsa during the ban, and 150 kg of hilsa has been seized.

Members of the army, Coast Guard and fisheries department ran a joint drive at various points on the Payra river in Patuakhali Sadar and Mirzaganj upazilas from dawn to noon on Sunday (27 October).

Muhammad Mahfuzur Rahman, senior fisheries officer of Patuakhali Sadar upazila, said about 150 kg of fish was recovered in the drive. Five fishermen were also detained for catching hilsa illegally. Four of them were sentenced to 10 days in jail, and one was released because he is a minor. The recovered fish were later given to various madrasas and orphanages.

Patuakhali district fisheries officer Md Kamrul Islam said the drive will continue until 3 November.
